Step 1: Install the Two Plugins

Download the two required plugin ZIP files from the official YIH resources above, then upload and activate both plugins on your institution WordPress website.

Install the Connector Plugin

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  3. Select the ZIP file for YIH Institution Connector.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. After installation, click Activate.

Install the Learner Portal Plugin

  1. Go again to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  2. Select the ZIP file for YIH Institution Learner Portal.
  3. Click Install Now.
  4. After installation, click Activate.
Both plugins are required. The Connector handles secure communication with YIH, while the Learner Portal manages learner records and synchronization.

Step 2: Open the Plugin Settings

After activating the plugins, open the settings area for the connector and the learner portal from your WordPress admin dashboard.

  1. In the WordPress admin menu, locate YIH Institution Connector.
  2. Open its Settings page.
  3. Also locate YIH Institution Learner Portal.
  4. Open the learner portal area so you can later add or upload learners.
The Connector settings must be completed correctly before learner sync and course access can work properly.

Step 3: Configure the Connector Settings

Enter the connector settings exactly as provided by YIH. These settings allow your institution website to communicate securely with the YIH learning system.

Bridge Endpoint

Use the bridge endpoint exactly as shown below:

https://youthinnovationhub.org/sc-lms/wp-json/yih-bridge/v1/institution-access

Login Page URL

This should be the login page on your own institution website where learners sign in before accessing their programs.

https://yourdomain/learning-portal-login/

Other Important Settings

  • API Key: Enter the API key provided by YIH.
  • API Secret: Enter the API secret provided by YIH.
  • External ID Prefix: Use a short institution code such as talanta, scl-club, or another approved prefix.
  • Required Role: Leave blank unless your institution wants to restrict access to a specific WordPress user role.
  • Default Button Label: Example: Access Course or Start Learning.
The Bridge Endpoint points to the YIH LMS bridge. The Login Page URL points to your institution site. These are two different settings.

Step 4: Add Learners

Once your settings are saved correctly, you can begin adding learners who should access YIH programs through your institution.

Manual Entry

  1. Open the YIH Institution Learner Portal menu.
  2. Click Add Learner.
  3. Enter the learner’s details carefully.
  4. Select the correct program and cohort where applicable.
  5. Save the learner record.

Bulk Upload

  1. Open the YIH Institution Learner Portal menu.
  2. Click Bulk Upload.
  3. Prepare your CSV file using the expected learner format.
  4. Upload the CSV file.
  5. Review the imported entries and confirm they are correct.
Use manual entry for a few learners and bulk upload when onboarding larger groups.

Step 5: Synchronize Learner Records

After adding learners, synchronize their records so that YIH can recognize approved access requests from your institution.

  1. Open the learner list in the learner portal.
  2. Confirm that the learner name, email, and program are correct.
  3. Use the available sync action for the learner record.
  4. Wait for a successful confirmation before testing access.
A learner must be synchronized successfully before course access can work correctly through the connector.

Step 6: Test Learner Login and Access

Once the learner has been added and synchronized successfully, test the login and program access flow from the learner’s side.

  1. Open your institution learner login page.
  2. Sign in with the learner’s account.
  3. Open the learner dashboard or course access area.
  4. Click the access button such as Start Learning.
  5. Confirm that the learner is passed securely into the assigned YIH program.

Step 7: Common Checks if Access Fails

If a learner cannot access a course correctly, review the following items before requesting support.

  • Confirm the Bridge Endpoint is correct and complete.
  • Confirm the Login Page URL belongs to your institution website.
  • Check that the API Key and API Secret were entered correctly.
  • Confirm the learner record was saved and synchronized successfully.
  • Check that the correct learning program was assigned to the learner.
  • Confirm the learner is logging in using the correct institution account.
In most cases, access issues are caused by incorrect settings, incomplete learner sync, or mismatched learner records.

Step 8: Recommended Setup Order

For a smooth setup experience, follow the installation and activation process in this order:

  1. Download the two ZIP plugins and PDF manual.
  2. Install and activate the YIH Institution Connector.
  3. Install and activate the YIH Institution Learner Portal.
  4. Configure the connector settings carefully.
  5. Add learners manually or through bulk upload.
  6. Synchronize learner records.
  7. Test learner login and program access.
